Wilson Penny War

Wilson Junior High held a penny war to raise money for Pennies for Patients, a foundation that raises money for children with Leukemia and Lymphoma.  As a school, they raised $2,425!!!

In the penny war, each class had a collection can for donations where the value of the coins collected by each group counted positively toward that group's point total, while the value of bills was subtracted.  Therefore, students not in the 4th hour class could "squash" a class by putting paper money in their can.  The last day was the most exciting as students put $5, $10's and sometimes even $20 bills in each other's cans.

Builders Club advisor and Wilson Junior High math teacher Kris Conrad said, "The students saw firsthand how their involvement can make a difference in helping save the lives of blood cancer patients simply by fundraising through a friendly competition."

Way to go Warhawks!
