Integrated Life Science (ILS) Power Standards

The structure of an organism and its parts enables life’s essential functions and characteristics. * DNA provides a blueprint for organisms to pass characteristics onto offspring and, if altered, may lead to a different set of characteristics. * Evolut ion of species by natural selection is a theory supported by multiple lines of evidence. * Organisms interact with both the living and nonliving environment to obtain the matter and energy they need in order to live, grow, and reproduce. Science 8 Enriched Power Standards * Develop a model to describe how food is rearranged through chemical reactions forming new molecules that support growth and/or release energy as this matter moves through an organism. * Use and evaluate models to construct an explanation based on evidence for how geoscience processes have changed Earth's surface. * Analyze and interpret data to explain how traits are inherited and how populations are changed by inheritance of traits. * Carry out investigations and construct models to determine how forces influence motion, the relationship between forces and energy, and how to describe motion. * Plan and carry out scientific investigations to help construct a claim, evidence, reasoning explanation and model about natural phenomena.
