Solo/Ensemble Research Introduction


As part of your Solo/Ensemble expectation, you will be required to provide an introduction for the judge.  Most of these questions/statements are basic information, however, the final statement is not.  You are to provide a “meaningful” Interesting Aspect for each or your entries.

For this activity you are being asked to research some aspects of your piece that provides Interesting Insight.  Some things that students find out about are:


  • Background/history of the composer
  • The style of piece (when was it popular/where did it come from/why was it used?)
  • The musical era during which this piece was composed
  • Musical attributes that you had to practice in order to perfect
  • Other musical items that you feel are interesting

Make this a meaningful statement.  Do Not Go This Route: “ An interesting aspect of this piece are the dynamics”.  Go further with that statement - “An interesting aspect of this piece is how the composer uses the dynamics F, FP and SFZ to portray the conflict of a this warring nation”.
